RESIDENTS GROUP GETS GOING
A new tenant group has been formed for the Longfield Avenue estate in Coppull. The decision by residents to set up the group is the latest example of the rebirth of the once-troubled 1960s built estate, which last year received a £250,000 makeover by landlord Chorley Community Housing (CCH).
Residents have been meeting with staff from CCH and Chorley Council at the Longfield Community hub over the past eight months to discuss issues that matter to residents on a local level. Prior to Christmas a dedicated group of five residents decided that they would like to take the next step and become a recognised group.
Charlie Barlow, Resident Involvement Officer with CCH, said: “I’m extremely impressed with the progress of the newly formed committee. They are already forming their own agenda to tackle local issues and are working hard to improve community spirit and the cosmetic appearance of the area for residents living on Longfield”.
Over the next six months the committee will be working with staff from CCH, focusing on key issues which residents on Longfield feel are most important to them. These include tackling anti-social behaviour, making roads safer around the estate, developing a new play area and providing more activities for young people at the community hub.
Mike Murphy, Regional Manager for CCH, said: “We’re always pleased when a new group sets itself up because it helps us to deliver what the community wants. The group is open to all residents living on the Longfield Avenue estate and we look forward to working closely with them in future.”
