Spring Pond

This little depression in the tundra collects spring meltwater and forms a pond which freezes every night. The pond might last for a month or two, long enough for wood frogs to breed and lay eggs, and tadpoles to mature into the next generation frogs. Wild iris will soon be blooming along the margins, and then in midsummer it will all probably dry up.
