White flower on Peruvian apple cactus 20251111-150718
This is the second photo I made of a large bloom on a columnar cactus, specifically a Peruvian Apple Cactus, during Melody's and my daily walk in the early afternoon of November 11, 2026. It was one of two flowers on the tall cactus, though this particular cactus stood only six or eight feet, much smaller than its potential height. I found the name by using an app on my phone that identifies flowers and plants. The fragrant flowers last for only one night. They open after dark and wilt by morning. I captured this image 20 minutes after the photo of the same flower photographed 20 minutes before near the start of our walk. You can see the flower seems even more perky than it had earlier; or, maybe the bee weighed it down. I did not fully research the plant until two days later. When I went around the block to check out the flowers, they were very wilted. They supposedly wilt before producing very edible and nutritious fruit. I shot using a preset macro setting using my Canon Powershot SX50. The previous image is also a close shot, made even closer by cropping. What marvelous timing to see this beautiful flower.
