Bee on White Peruvian apple cactus flower 20251111-144751B
I made this photo of a bee entering a large flower that had bloomed on a columnar cactus, specifically a Peruvian Apple Cactus, during Melody's and my daily walk in the early afternoon of November 11, 2026. This is one of two flowers on the tall cactus, though this particular cactus stood only six or eight feet, much smaller than its potential height. I found the name by using an app on my phone that identifies flowers and plants. The fragrant flowers last for only one night. They open after dark and wilt by morning. I captured this image 20 minutes before the photo of the same flower photographed 20 minutes later on our way back home. You can see the flower seemed even more perky at that time. I did not fully research the plant until two days later. When I went around the block to check out the flowers, they were very wilted. They supposedly wilt before producing very edible and nutritious fruit. I shot this at close range using my Canon Powershot SX50. Check out the following slide for a macro image.
