Melody captured this image of the base of a redwood tree next to the paved path on the floor of Muir Woods National Monument, a redwood tree forest in Mill Valley California just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The layout of 554 acres of redwood trees allows visitors to walk among the giants that tower over 200 above us. The paths on the floor of the valley of the forest are the only ones that are paved. The paths that climb through the hills on either side are cut into the mountainsides and are well defined but not paved. Many include stairs of natural materials in many of the steep areas. Walking a trail through these coastal redwoods above some of the tree tops can be quite strenuous and take a few hours.
