Windmills
Taken from an inter-urban electric train (1900's), from the Western Railway Museum, out Hwy12, south of Fairfield. It's an enjoyable 12mi round trip, especially with kids, through the Montezuma Hills (grain production and cattle ranching center to the SF Bay Area in the late 1800's), now home to a large wind farm. I noticed this older windmill on the way out. I planned to photograph it on the way back by moving outside, to the trains landing. What I didn't know is how rough the ride was on that last car. I was able to shoot twice, even though I was sure I'd be pitched out, bracing myself on the waist high railing. I had to crop it 10:1 for the older windmill to show up at all but......history (and scale).
