My Father's Chicken Permit 1940
This permit allowed my father to make use of a section of the embankment by Wivelsfield Station to keep chickens. Obviously we had a supply of eggs, and all of a sudden one or more chicken would disappear 'taken by fxzes'. Strange as it may seem we had roast chicken the next day! My father was a relief porter at the time, often on at Newick and Chailey or Horsted Keynes, in fact I had a early footplate ride at Horsted on the daily goodss train. Being he was out on the country lines we frequently had rabbits hanging in the outside shed.
