Storeys Gate
This is a bit of a rarity, film format wise, this is a found half frame Agfacolor slide showing the Westminster Arms in Storeys Gate. In the early 1990s I was a Police Sergeant at Rochester Row Police Station; our area covered the west side of storeys Gate including the Methodist Central Hall. I was on duty at a Trade Union meeting at the Hall, I can’t remember the Union although it was one of the heavy industry Unions. Things became quite heated when they left the meeting and the nearby pub became a magnet for Union members. Soon they were spilling out of the pub into the roadway causing obstruction to pedestrians and vehicles. I managed to enter the pub and told the manager to close, I have never seen such a relieved expression on anyone’s face. We cleared the pub and they wandered off to find other pubs, there are many in the area.
