Horse Guards Approach Road

This is an early 1920s postcard showing the view looking north along Horse Guards Approach Road towards Horse Guards Parade. It is titled "The Admiralty" which can be seen in the distance centre left, on the right is the new Government building which at this time housed the board of trade and several other ministries, it is now the Treasury. Beyond Clive Steps is the India Office which was part of the Foreign Office. This may be 1919 or 1920 because there seems to be huts on Horse Guards Parade, the huts were built on the parade during the first world war as overflow accommodation for Government ministries, the huts on the parade were occupied by the Admiralty and were finally demolished in February 1921.
