There is 2 jewish cemeteries in Essaouira (old Mogador) on the moroccan atlantic coast.
The city counted up to 17'000 jews for only 10'000 muslims.
In the ancient one is buried Rabbi Haim Pinto. In my childhood, I remember my grand mother calling upon him for a little help ! You can find a lot of anthropomorphic tombs in this cemetery (with a seaview). See the very interesting article (in French only) on www.melca.info/cimetiere.html
In the "new one", I could find tombs of my ancestors (here a grand aunt).
You can find a wonderful conservation and genealogical work on:
A muslim family is in charge of the cemeteries and of the last synagogue (the Rabbi H. Pinto one in the mellah). They really love the place and are very helpful when you are lost trying to find a special tomb.
