Aircraft Action Reports (AAR's) were made after every mission. The section Air Combat Intelligence (ACI) officer debriefed each pilot and typed up the information on this form. The June 15 strikes were the first against Iwo and our knowledge of the island was almost zero. Lt. Hal Payne, the ACI for VT 32, hitched a ride on my father's plane to take photos of the island. He was killed by shrapnel in the greenhouse compartment a few feet behind my father.
