Betancuria – Fuerteventuras ältester Ort

Iglesia de Santa María de Betancuria - 1410 ursprünglich errichtet gilt es als eine der ältesten Kirchen auf den Kanaren, 1424 zur Kathedrale erhoben, 1593 von Piraten zerstört, der Wiederaufbau zog sich über 100 Jahre hinweg und wurde 1691 vollendet. Es ist bis heute eine der größten Kirchen auf Fuerteventura.

Iglesia de Santa María de Betancuria – Originally built in 1410, it is considered one of the oldest churches in the Canary Islands. Elevated to the status of a cathedral in 1424, it was destroyed by pirates in 1593, and its reconstruction took over 100 years, finally being completed in 1691. It remains one of the largest churches on Fuerteventura.
