Pennsylvania Leather Wing on goldenrod

They arent Honey bee's

seam they are winding down as today didnt see one.

Today i was thinking of my mother. long ago we had a very active Honey bee tree across

Dug pond , the old hollow tree stood for many years and unfortunatly a target

for kids to throw rocks at .

seamed for three years you could hear the rocks hit the hollow tree and then hear kids running full steam down the road.

during the winters you could see the dead and dying on top of the snow as workers cleaned out the hive.

One year i discovered the old tree had fallen. the bees gone.

around the entrace i found a very interesting dark reddish brown glob with specs of copper in it .

Not knowing what the substance was, i broke it from the hives entrance , walking home with it i smelled it .it had the most pleasing smell sort of sweet and i gave it to my mother.

I remember her telling me that it was Propolis a tar like wax substance made from tree buds, sap and other stuff.

For years it was placed on the kitchen window sil along with other stuff us kids found interesting to give to our mother.

Today my wife found an Irish cross . My mother wore it all the time as i recall she had a bright red sweater she had the pin fasten to.

Seeing that pin jogged my memory about Propolis and times i remember of her .

boy i miss her.
