Ruby Throated Hummingbird
I photographed this Juvenile female Ruby Throated Hummingbird this evening in the Backyard.
This was a setup where I placed the stem from the Cardinal flower into the Hummingbird feeder and plugged the other 3 remaining holes, then placed sugar water into the blossoms to draw the bird to the flower.
Usiing a 100mm. F2.8 Macro lens for this image I preset focused on Manual for the desired location at F/4 and Iso 1000, This gave me 1/6400th shutter speed against a Maple tree background.
The camera was set back 42" from the flower. In addition I used 1 on board flash with a latex glove over the flash to help diffuse it set at - 1/64TH In manual mode, with camera also in manual mode set at -1/3rd metered off the flower. The camera was then triggered with the Gigitube remote trigger system from the comfort of my Deck...
Hope you like it.
