Oswald Griffin's Seaman's Citizenship Certificate

July 24th 1920

 

Oswald was my father's first cousin. Later Oswald was captain

of the merchant ship, SS West Portal. It was sunk by U-boat 413

near Greenland on Feb 5th 1943. No one on the ship survived.

Before 1940, US seamen used these certificates as proof of citizenship.
