Hydrogen fuel cell-electric double-decker in Liverpool

Hydrogen fuel cell-electric buses are something of a white elephant in the UK, with many of these highly-expensive vehicles grossly under-employed due to difficulties in fuelling them. 20 Alexander Dennis Enviro400FCEV double-deckers in the Liverpool City Region are among those 'hangar queens', with the 10 placed with Arriva by owner the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority seeing sporadic service, and the other 10 with Stagecoach yet to carry passengers. Bus industry opinion now largely favours battery-electric over hydrogen, and indeed the Liverpool City Region is to see more electrics rather than an expansion of its hydrogen fleet. Here Arriva 4901 (SK23 CMU) arrives in Liverpool from St Helens on a 10A working.
