Gear review: Generic vs brand-name lens cap

Well, here is the comparison between the two different dia. 52mm lens caps I bought from local suppliers.

Left: The generic lens cap

Right: The Nikon lens cap

Both lens caps fit properly, BUT the Nikon lens cap clips on a lot better, with a firm 'click'. One needs to press harder to release it from the lens than the generic lens cap which has a much softer 'mechanism' and does not 'click' in as much as the brand-name lens cap. The Nikon lens cap looks and feels better made.

Price difference:

Generic: AUD 5.95 (approx. USD 4.70)

Nikon: AUD 19.00 (approx. USD 15.00) Ouch!

Is it worth it? I prefer the Nikon lens cap. I have to admit that paying AUD 19.00 for one of these things hurt and I bought three of them! The lens cap I lost was a generic lens cap and it makes me wonder whether it just fell off when dangling the camera from my wrist strap with the camera and lens brushing against clothing or the lens cap not properly put on.

Ahh... for the love of Nikon and Nikon lens caps !

There are times when one needs a sense of humour. :D
