Pontiac 1957 Star Chief 2-Door Hardtop Coupe
One could be forgiven for thinking that the only GM product manufactured in 1957 was the Chevrolet Bel Air. All GM's other divisions were not standing atill however, and had released their own portfolio of models.
The Pontiac Division had been re-energised under the leadership of Bunkie Knudsen. Out were the old motifs popular over the past two decades, the silver streaks, and turning up the V8 power. Pontiac, along with Chevrolet had missed out on the all-new 1957 bodies featured in the other divisions, but kept the A-Body from the previous two years. The bodystyles mirrored those of the Chevrolet Division, 2 and 4-door sedans, 2 and 4-door hardtops, Convertibles and a coupe of variants of the wagon body design.
Fins were still all the rage, as were heavily chromed front ends. Multi-tone paints was also a popular 1950's styling tool, though Pontiac left it at only two colours. Trim within the rear side panel varied between models though.
The two 1957 Pontiac Star Chiefs featured here, a Convertible Coupe and a 2-door Hardtop Coupe have been designed for Flickr LUGNuts 60th Build Challenge - Its 5th Birthday CHallenge, to the 59th Buid Challenge theme - 'Nifty Fifties, Daddy-O', - celebrating things automotive from the US in the 1950's.
The lego models feature a separate chassis construction, lego piston engine, front and rear suspension. The bodies have opening hoods (bonnet), trunk (boot) and opening doors. The fundamental design, like GM's engineering modus operandi from the period, was to share a common body design between divisions (even if the frame designs and engines were frequently unique to the marques).
