Chevrolet 1955 Pickup Truck Advert
The 1955 Chevrolet Pickup truck range was known as the 'Task Force', and replaced the 'Advanced Design' trucks which had been launched after WW II. The initial 1955 models were known as 'Second Series' models, due to the late 1955 launch timing.
The Task Force Series were marketed under both the Chevrolet and GMC banners, and some models featured model names (including the smooth-sided Cameo). The model seires ran through to the 1959 model year, featuring minor cosmetic updated which largely mirrored those of the Chevrolet passenger car range, including quad headlamps from 1958.
The models came in both pickup and panel van form, and had the option of short (114 in) or longer-wheelbase (123 in and 135in), longer load area options.
The engine lineup include a 235 cid (3.9 litre) Inline six-cylinder and two Vee-eights, of 265 cid (4.3 litres) and 283 cid (4.6 litres).
At this point the GM trucks had market leadership over Ford and maintained this leadership until 1976.
The payload varied between models, 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton and 1 1/2 ton, usually dependant on wheelbase length.
Any industrial or agricultural landscape in the US during the 1950s would have featured the Task Force Series pickups - and these models have been built for Flickr LUGNuts 59th build challenge - 'Nifty Fifties, Daddy-O', - featuring all things automotive from the 1950's
All models shown feature 1955 styling.
