Ferrari 400 Superamerica Coupe Aerodinamico - 1962
Ferrari Superamerica is the name given to the most exclusive and luxurious of Ferrari models.
Following on from the series of Ferrari 410 Superamericas that were produced from 1956 to 1959, the 400 Superamerica continued the low volume individualised style for the most special of Ferrari's customer. A total of 45 400 Superamericas were built, most to a general form, none two exactly the same.
The vee-twelve engine was now 4.0 litre swept capacity with a similar 340 hp produced to the earlier 410 series.
The particular vehicle illustrated here is the 1962 Aerodinamico coupe, one of the very last of the 400 series produced. The aerodynamic styling was very advanced for the time, and no doubt helped in achieving a very maximun speed (at 272 km/h, faster than most racing Ferraris of the period).
Exclusive Ferraris were on the wane, and Ferrari was now standardising to the 250. A later 500 Superfast series of 37 cars shared the Aerodinamico style. The 500 was the last ultra-luxury, ultra exclusive series Ferrari produced.
The Coupe Aerodinamico shown here is white, whilst some of the 400s have changed colour over time, and look stunning in more 'passionate' hues.
