Volvo 120 Amazon 2-Door Sedan
INSTRUCTIONS AVAILABLE
The Volvo Amazon was a range of 2-door sedan, 4-door sedan, and 5-door wagon models built by the Swedish manufacturer from 1956 – 1970. The model was originally to be named Amason, using the letter ‘s’, but a trademark dispute led to the name ‘Amazon’ outside of Sweden, leading to the car adopting the 3-digit model code 120.
The Volvo Amazon / 120-Series bore a close resemblance to the luxury US automaker Chrysler’s 1955 model range, but scaled about 80% of than cars size. In particular, the split grille, which was uncommon at the time.
The Amazon / 120 four-door and two-door sedan were launched in 1956.
The Amazon was made available with 4-cylinder engines of 1.6L, 1.8L and 2.0L capacity.
One key notable feature was the world-first standard fitment of safety belts, an early step on Volvo’s long standing focus on occupant safety.
