BMW E28 M5 Saloon

The E28 Generation of the BMW Executive-size 5-Series launched in 1981. The new car replaced the E12 with a product that was very similar in size and appearance, but updated key BMW design elements, including a wider interpretation of the kidney grilles.
All-new though was the M5, a low-volume product from the BMW M-Division.
Powertrain was developed from the low-volume M1 Supercar and E24 M635CSi. The inline six-cylinder M88/3 had a capacity of 3.5L, and produced 210 kW (286 PS). Upon launch, in 1984, the M5 was the fastest production sedan in the world.
The E28 M5 was produced in only limited volume, 2,241 units, making it one of the rarest modern era BMW models.
The E28 was replaced in 1988 by a new car developed from the E34 BMW 5-Series, similarly named M5, which followed a similar engineering philosophy, but which was manufactured in significantly higher volumes.
