Land Rover Defender 90 (1998)

The Land Rover Defender has obvious roots right back to WWII. Though evolved through the years, the basic Land Rover silhouette is the longest running in the world. Land Rover finally replaced the classic Defender in 2020, having shut down the classic Land Rover production line in 2016.

The classic Land Rover was renamed 'Defender' in 1990, upon the launch of the more road, and family-friendly 'Discovery' model. A variety of models were available in short (90 in), long (110 in), and extra long (130 in) wheelbases.

The Defender was also available with a variety of engines, chiefly diesel engines. A V8 model was available, initially using a 3.9L version of the classic Rover engine.

The model shown here is the SWB 90in version, fitted with a V8.

As for most of the models built his November, the Land Rover Defender 90 V8 is a major redesign of a previously created model. In LUGNuts there was a build challenge named 'Redo or Redemption' just for this type of build.
