Ferrari SF90 Stradale (2019)
Launched 12 months ago, the Ferrari SF90 Stradale is the marque's latest supercar. The SF90 celebrates the 9th anniversary of the foundation of Scuderia Ferrari, the racing team formed by Enzo Ferrari.
The SF90 Stradale is noticeably similar to the mainstream V8 mid-engine Ferraris of recent years, the 458/488 and latest F8 Tributo, this is seen in the mechanical package - mid-engine and V8, all but the 458 also deploying turbocharging. The key dimensions are likely to be very similar, despite the adoption of carbon fibre into the chassis.
In many ways the SF90 is not a replacement for Ferrari's last hypercar, the La Ferrari, which was V12-powered. The SF90 is more likely seen as a lower-volume F8, turned up to 12!
Key to any new Ferrari is the engine, now at 4.0 L. Total powertrain power is now a claimed 1000 PS, equating to 736 kW. Of this, 574 kW and 800Nm as delivered by the internal combustion engine, the remaining 136kW is attributed to three electric drive motors, one sandwiched by the engine and gearbox, the other two on the front axle, which can also permit torque vectoring.
The hybrid electric drive and PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Battery Vehicle) battery additionally permits electric-only drive for a distance of 25km.
Also derived from the mainstream Ferrari V8 range is the styling, which evolves some elements, including the rear deck, square tail lamps and headlamp execution, but leaves many looking overly similar to the recently launched F8 Tributo.
Set to be built in low(ish) numbers, the SF90 is not a limited edition model, nor a replacement for the La Ferrari.
Unfortunately, this car in many ways is just another (fast bite) of a cherry we have already seen.
