Mercury Eight Club Coupe (1939)

The Ford Motor Company formed a new mid-priced Marque in 1939 to sit between Ford and Lincoln. The new marque was named 'Mercury'. 1939 marked the first model year, the model, named 'Eight' was fitted with a 3.9 L version of the Flathead V8 engine.

The Eight rode on a 116 in wheelbase, and had its own unique body, not shared with Ford or Lincoln models (this ended in 1941 when the body was shared with the Ford model).

Mercury's natural competitors were Oldsmobile, De Soto, Buick and Dode, along with mid-priced independent makers such as Hudson and Studebaker.

Shown is the Club Coupe model, in essence a two-door sedan, though at the time, that description would have meant a longroof vehicle, like the Ford Tudor.
