Citroen Traction Avant 22CV Berline - 1934

Mix in one Big Citroen, add a Ford flathead V8, and luxurious Saloon bodywork and some big ambitions.

What then?

The 1934 Citroen 22CV Berline (of course?). All this really happened. Citroen wished to expand its reach upmarket with a V8 engined version of its top-line 'Traction Avant'. The taxation code '22CV' indicated that the intent was to build their own V8 from two 1.9 litre inline-four component sets. In the interim, Citroen fitted a 3.6 litre V8 Ford Flathead engine.

A few running prototypes were built, along with about 30-odd chassis and body sets for the 1934 Paris Salon. The cars being displayed in the various saloon, coupe and cabriolet bodystyles that were available on the other Traction Avant chassis.

The 22CV is identifiable by a more integrated front end with fared in lamps and hoodline. The prototypes were later fitted with standard Citroen engines, and sold to customers, with the rest of the project cancelled.

Imagine a world with 3.8 litre V8 productionised Citroen Traction Avants however....
