Ferrari 328 GTS Targa (1986)

Designed as a replacement for, and substantially based on the Ferrari 308, the 328 Ferrari shared much, both under the skin, and in it's wedge-like bodywork.

The Vee-eight engine was enlarged to 3.2 litre (from 3.0), producing 270 hp (201 kW) and 313 Nm, in lieu of the last 308 Quattrovalvole (4-valve) 240 hp (179 kW).

Exterior design mimicked that of the 308. Styling was again by Pininfarina by the hand of Leonardo Fioravanti. Most notable differences were the use of deeper front and rear bumper treatments and a new, larger wheel design. Alongside the 328 GTB Berlinetta model shown here, was a 328 GTS Targa-topped model in the same vein as the 308 GTS model. There were many detail changes in chassis systems as well. There changes were also included in the update to the 4-seater Ferrari Mondial 3.2.

The Ferrai 328 was produced from 1986 - 1989 and provided a stop gap between the long-running 308 Series Ferrari and the Testarossa-inspired 348, released in 1989. Key technical change of the 348 was the adoption of a longitudinally-mounted 3.4 litre edition of the vee-eight, backed by a transversely mounted gearbox, a change seen in the limited production Ferrari 288 GTO a few years earlier. For the Ferrari 308 and 328, like its Dino 206/246 predecessor, the engine was mounted transversely, across the chassis, behind the driver.

This Lego miniland-scale Ferrari 328 GTS Targa has been designed for Flickr LUGNuts 85th Build Challenge - 'Like, Totally 80's" - for vehicles created during the decade of the 1980s..

This model is in many respects, very similar to the Ferrari 308 I designed in 2013. Along with the changes to evolve the model into the 328, I have included the rear buttress design similar to that developed by Ralph Savelsberg for his Ferrari 308.
