The Towpath
A typically muddy trail between the canal and the Potomac River. You have to be alert because the loaded bike often fishtails when navigating mud and if you aren't, there's a good chance you'll wind up in the river or the canal with the pond scum!
Towpath maintenance is borderline adequate but apparently the national parks branch has cut maintenance staff so it could be better. The mud is the result of a much wetter-than-normal spring.
