Three Hundred One.

I used to laugh it off

I used to look the other way

I used to save them troubles for another day

I kept my fingers crossed

I used to never take the blame

I'd pull a sunshine story in a pouring rain

The more I had to change I'd just stay the same

- Erik Hassle, Hurtful

If you keep doing what you're doing, you'll keep getting what you've got.

If you want your life to change, you have to change your life.

I've always been someone who has turned to quotes and lyrics to help me through difficult times. I think part of the reason is that my grandpa always used to give me snippets of poems and quotes when I was younger. It's amazing how much inspirational quotes really can get under your skin and motivate you. When I coached high school soccer, I used to spend hours painstakingly selecting the perfect inspirational/motivational quotes for each of my players. I think they help us focus in on what's important in the midst of all the craziness of day to day life.

Anyway, I love these lyrics to this Erik Hassle song that Tiffany picked this week for Musically Challenged. They speak to me right now. I've spent a hell of a lot of time making excuses and brushing off the real issues in my life. It's easier to ignore than it is to admit that everything has to change. Over the past few months, I've been working really hard to change that habit of mine. It's not an easy thing - changing everything you've grown accustomed to. But the alternative simply isn't acceptable. From this point on, I'm aiming for progress, not perfection.
