Kurt Vonnegut obtained a building permit for a gas tank about five months after obtaining a permit to begin construction of the home.. Interestingly, he applied for the permit using the address of 4401, even thought the city had given it the address of 4365. It's not clear if this equipment was used in the construction of the house or the home's heating system. Either way, it confirms the fact that the Vonneguts did not reside in the property until some time after February 9, 1923. Many accounts of Kurt Jr.'s life and articles about the home incorrectly state that Kurt was born in the home. He was not.
