of Colletes cunicularius from a previous season, exposed by erosion, still in situ embedded between layers of post-glacial riverine deposits. The tunnel refilled by the female is to the right. Eclosion happened sideways apparently, as this might have been the easy way out.

Note the lower left end of the cell, having safely held the semi-liquid provisons. In this case, too, tunneled parallel to the sediment layers.
