Lock 31 - Sprakers
This is a closer look at a section of Enlarged Erie Canal Lock 31. This was a double chamber lock with a 6 foot lift. It was built around 1850 and later lengthened in 1888. This view is at the east end . It would be the south wall of the north chamber. Most of this lock is now located under Route 5S. The part that remains is right next to the highway ( Route 5S ) on the south side, just east of Sprakers. Pay attention, it's really easy to zoom right by it.
