An Old Window

A small example of the "Hijazy" style of architecture, and specifically windows. The Hijaz is a word that points to the Western region of Saudi Arabia (Makkah Region). Old Hijazy windows are known locally as "Roshaan" though the one in this photo is not really one of these windows, but it still is famous in this region. It is made of wood and operates using very simple carpentry principles. That is, a central piece of wood connected to the window's wooden blades slide up and down to open/close the blades. the viewr from the outside cannot see what's in the inside even if the blades are open.

مثال بسيط لأحد المبادئ المستخدمة في أسلوب العمارة الحجازي ، حيث يطلق على هذا النوع من النوافذ مسمى : الروشان

ومع أن النافذة في هذه الصورة ليست من الرواشين المعتادة ، او التي جرت العادة على رؤيتها ، إلا أنها تنتمي أساساً لهذا الأسلوب من العمارة

وتعمل هذه النوافذ على مبادئ النجارة البسيطه ، حيث يقوم "مفصل خشبي" متصل بباقي شفرات النافذة بالإنزلاق للأعلى والأسفل

مما يتيح اتساع الفتحات بين شفرات النافذة أو إغلاقها ، وفي كلا الحالتين لا يستطيع الناظر من الخارج رؤية ما بالداخل بوضوح

 

لم نعد نرى مثل هذه النوافذ إلا نادراً ، وغالباً في البيوت القديمة بالقرب من الحرم
