Shornemead Guard Hut, side aspect.
Taken on 23 January 2014 and uploaded 18 August 2024.
I uploaded a later photo of this, showing its frontal aspect.
This is one of two brick built guard huts on the concrete road leading through Filborough Marshes to the ruin of Shornemead Fort. One at each end of the road, I don't remember which end this is at and I'm not sure this and the other photo are the same hut (I'm getting old...). It is as it is, as is said.
I'm surprised a thrusting go-getter like the former Secretary for This-That-And-The-Next-Thing, Grant Shapps, or one of his alter egos, didn't make more of this and others like it: it's an attractive brick built outhouse in a charmingly bucolic setting with nearby amenities (paths, a river, big electricity pylons) and would probably attract bids in excess of £400,000 in London (close to direct rail links).
