Dartford Marshes: Wells Fireworks
Dartford Marshes is an extensive expanse of land below the town of Dartford and extending down to the south bank of the River Thames. Over time, a hospital, power station and fireworks factory were based there, as well as an airfield, hospital ships...
There are still remnants of the hospital, small brick built structures, ammunition stores and this, a hut that was part of the Wells Fireworks factory, which closed in the 1970s (Wells continues elsewhere). Parts of the factory remain - including far more than this solitary hut - and occupied quite a large space of quite marshy land (wet and overgrown) which was hit by wildfires last summer (2022) and what had survived the weather and neglect of a few decades is now gone. The hospital and power station were demolished more conventionally.
Still there: a least one shooting club, a model aircraft club and an excellent walk down the river Darent from Dartford to the Thames
