It almost pains me to post this, but BNSF C40-8W 872 has come to the "End of the Trail" and is being indiscriminately disassembled by a contractor. Built as a Santa Fe Warbonnet 28 years ago (gasp), it had lingered for some time, along with the 1492 and 575 (out of view), as a parts supply for the diesel pit at Alliance Yard, on the north side of Fort Worth. Presented with such a scene (complete with a sprinkle of rain for dramatic effect), I had a philosophical moment considering how others had been confronted with such scenes over the years and documented them in their turn. That moment shortly dissipated with the realization that I had missed a chance to hit the scrapper up for the number boards. Oh well.
