Paper Cranes

There are lots of cabinets full of paper cranes in the Peace Memorial Park, mostly around the Children's Peace Monument dedicated to the story of Sadako Sasaki. Sadako survived the bomb but was diagnosed with leukima 10 years later. There is an old Japanese legend that if you fold 1000 paper cranes your wish will be granted. She died before she finished, aged 12, but her schoolmates finished them for her. Now people send cranes to the park from all over the world
