Fleet River Walk: Holborn Viaduct

Fans of Michael Moorcock (Mother London) might recognize this as the place where Mary Gasalee spent much of her childhood, and where she visits in the 'Land of Dreams'.

Holborn viaduct was built in 1869 to connect Holborn with Newgate street.

To the North of the Viaduct, Farringdon road was constructed over the Fleet in the 1840s. To the south, the river had been covered as early as the 1730s and the Fleet Market built on top.
