Broken Top Crater
A group of us spent much of the afternoon scrambling to what we thought was the summit of Broken Top mountain in the Three Sisters Wilderness near Bend, Oregon. We were a little disappointed when we got to the top and found no peak register. Upon consulting the map we were dismayed to find that the true summit (only about 5' higher) is the prominence on the far side of the crater (this photo).
For the curious, I would add that this is not a good place for the faint of heart. The rock is quite crumbly, the cliffs very high, and there are very few places to sit.
