Palouse Pastel

I had driven some 6 1/2 hours to get to Steptoe Butte and the sublime Palouse Hills and was mildly disappointed to find the air saturated with a heavy haze that strongly diffused the golden hour light. I was concerned that it would defeat my best efforts at manual focus and that the gusty breeze buffeting my tripod would finish off whatever detail might remain.

 

Magically, what I got was "painterly" with enough retained detail to show I was not being lazy and that my gear was competent.
