Documentation of Sami people offering and worship Wirku Accha statues on Tumulus mounds by Picart 1600's

Dokumentasjon av samiske tilbedere av et gudebilde på en gravhaug. Denne illustrasjonen ble publisert i et stort bokverk om verdens religioner av Bernard Picart.

Det er usikkert hvilken gud dette er, men det kan være fruktbarhetsgudinnene Freya som tilbes. På samisk kalles hun Mater Akka eller Sarakka. Sarakka er en indoeuropisk gudinne.

 

In the motif you see the Nordic Laplander or Sami people worshiping a Stupa-resembling statue that is placed on a mound. This engraving was made by the Christian artist Bernard Picart and published in books about religion in the late 1600eds and early 1724 – 1725. This particular picture was published in “The ceremonies and religious customs of the various nations” (1725). Picarts copper plate engravings are some of a few documentations left about the ancient pre-Christian Nordic religion. Colonizing Christians from the medieval period destructed or redefined most of the ancient religion and its manifestations in the Nordic. Read more in saamiblog.blogspot.com/
