Not In Use

There was a lot of activity on the Downs in Bristol in August 1973 as the City celebrated the six hundredth year since the granting of it's Royal Charter. Taken from the temporary bridge spanning the road that crosses the Downs so as to provide a link between the car parks and the exhibition, the photograph shows a recently delivered two doorway Bristol VRT of the Bristol Joint Services fleet operating on services 22/23, the first route to be converted to one person operated double-deckers one year previously. Despite the inclusion of rear destination number equipment, this facility was rarely used by the driver and was soon panelled over or painted out.
