This stand was used in the church to hold the Holy Bible or the Missal – the liturgical book containing the prayers, readings, and instructions for the celebration of the Mass. Silver sheets applied over a hardwood backing are richly adorned with rosette appliqués and intricate ysot, or hand-engraved, ornamentation. The decoration features finely detailed floral motifs, scrolling foliage, guilloche patterns, and dancetty designs along the ledge and backrest, all centered around the Archbishop’s Emblem. The angled back panel, designed to support an open book, is fully adjustable for ease of use.
