Three-Arm Sconce

A Neoclassical three-arm wall sconce

Estimate: PHP 100,000 - 120,000

Last quarter, 19th century

Narra, silver / black / gold paint

82 x 54 x 36 cm (32 x 21 x 14 in)

Provenance:

Formerly from the collection of a famous art and antiques collector

Large and with more simplistic features, the crest-shaped wall plate is decorated with well-carved laurel leaf wreaths, garlands, and acanthus leaves on top and either side; at the center is a sunburst motif radiating from a gilt Etruscan female head. Conforming ornaments can be seen below on the arms, capitals, and sconces. The contrasting black, silver, and gold colors provide timeless sophistication and drama. Such a piece may have been placed in the receiving room, the main living room, or the dining room of a colonial house of a very opulent and sophisticated family.
