Console Table

A console table

First Quarter, 20th century, Manila

Narra

82 x 123 x 47.5 cm (32 1/4 x 48 1/4 x 18 3/4 in)

The serpentine-shaped, groovings, and rounded corners of the top are echoed by the curvy lower components of the table. While the front frieze that holds the drawer is kept simple, there’s abundant carvings, scoops and etchings of flowers, foliates, C- and S-scrolls on the side frieze, posts, knees, legs, the elaborate x-stretcher and the cuffed feet.

These are design elements popularized by English Thomas Chippendale (b. 1718), as interpreted and adapted by Filipino artisans. An elegant-looking table bolstered by the interlocking grain and shiny lustre of narra wood.

Estimate: PHP 45,000 - 50,000
