Installed in 1979

The Museum has 100 dioramas depicting habitats from around the world. Twenty-six of the dioramas provide snapshots of Colorado sites. The Colorado dioramas were mainly developed through the 1950s. In the late 1970s Museum staff began talking about revisiting the locales of the Colorado dioramas and taking photographs to see how these places might have changed over the years, through human development or acts of
nature. The idea was never pursued—until now. This photo shows the diorama next to a photo of the same site in 2009.
Thank you to Brian Kerr, a Museum volunteer from Monument, who clocked thousands of miles on his Prius looking for the diorama sites.
