He lives in a rocky part of the refugee settlement but has 5 acres of land, farming extra plots abandoned by his neighbours. As well as receiving tools and seeds, he went to a caritas-supported Farmers Field School, where he learned new agricultural technical skills. “I learnt how to maximise the small amount of land that I have,” he said. He also set up a savings group, and has now invested in livestock. He left South Sudan in July 2016, where he was a farmer in a rural area near Yei. “I’m safe, the children are in school, we can get health care. But we are confined here and our plans are limited. I want a plan for 5-10 years where I know my children will benefit, but if I’m limited as a refugee and I can’t plan, then life isn’t good,” he said.
