Happy Mother's Day! This Is What I Picked Up For My Mom and Mother Nature! I Picked Up All This TRASH!! (Before Shot)

My Mother’s Day Gift! Good for Mother Nature and I know my Mom will be proud! She raised me to love and respect nature, animals, and other people. Thanks Mom! Maybe people who frequent the pond and the viewing deck down at the Expressway Park will notice the difference and think twice before they trash it up again. That would be a wonderful gift. I keep thinking about the impact of that tiny paperclip on our Sandhill Crane family, and I want to do more!

I put bags on my feet, and then an old pair of crocs, and rubber gloves. It was very squishy in places, and you can see my deep foot prints in the upper right corner of the “after” shot. At one point, I went down into the mud past my knee. I thought I was going to lose that croc for sure, which of course I wouldn’t miss the ugly old croc, but I would be ADDING debris instead of removing it. Luckily, I got myself unstuck. Worst part was, it was at that point, that I kind of smelled manure, and I realized that end of the pond gets some feed of water and debris from the cattle paddy across the street through the drains that run under them. So yeah, I was up past my knee in a manure mud mixture. Honest to goodness, I just shook my head and laughed. It’s not as though I’m a stranger to Cow Poop, having worked on a Dairy Farm when I was a teen. The entire escapade made me happy. When I got home, my husband hosed me off, LOL!! I couldn’t wait to get out of those crocs!

So Sheba, (my mom’s nickname), here’s what I picked up around the pond for you and Mother Nature today for Mother’s Day 2009!

6 Budweiser Cans

2 Bud Light Cans

6 Miller Lite Cans – sadly there was one more that I could not reach.

3 Coors Light Cans

1 Wide Mouth Plastic Miller Lite Bottle

2 other brown Wide Mouth Bottles no label.

2 Pepsi Bottles 20 oz or so

1 two liter Pepsi bottle

1 Red Bull Can

1 Monster Energy Drink

4 Mountain Dew Cans (and Mountain Dew has such a nature sounding name!)

2 Mountain Dew Bottles

2 Coke Classic Cans

1 Zephyrhills Water Bottle with pull spout

6 Gatorade Bottles Plastic – (I’m sure gators really enjoy swimming with their plastic namesakes)

1 Yogurt Drink with active cultures bottle, (how healthy for your colon you big LITTERBUG!!!)

1 Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail bottle, plastic

1 Capri Sun Juice bag thingy

1 lip gloss – Frosted Peach

4 plastic bottle caps, 2 from fitness water, 1 Gatorade and 1 from bottled water

1 Empty bag of Ruffles Potato Chips

1 Quaker Chewy something wrapper

1 piece of plastic coated electrical wire

1 Nerf Football – quite heavy when soaked with water.

1 empty Scott’s Bonus S Lawn Fertilizer and Weed Killer Bag – Plastic

1 empty nursery pot, black.

1 beer glass, about 20oz size.

1 Pair Size 12 Men’s Inline Skates, Black (I’m imagining someone who fell, for the last time, throwing them one at a time into the pond! They were 20 yards from each other.)

The end of the pond that I cleaned up, is normally under water, so this was an opportunity to take advantage of what the dry time has exposed and get it out of there! I've never seen an alligator in this pond, but it's so dry now, and they can move around because of it, so I did not wade in, which is why I had to leave one Miller Lite can behind.

PLEASE DON'T LITTER!! PLEASE!!! The tiniest thing you discard could impact wildlife negatively and can often be fatal.
