Sandhill Crane Feeding Her New Chicks

Explored!! How AWESOME! Thanks! =o) This is Cherry, feeding her chicks Dasani on the left and Zero on the right. This was the first shoot of these little spuds. Classic and Cherry brought them out of the woods after the landscapers went through. There were lots of bugs and lizards that had met their end via lawnmower or weed wacker, so it was easy pickings for a the parents and the chicks.

They were so comfortable with me, it was an honor. I guess since we had been through this the previous season, in which I photographed them raising one chick to adulthood, they knew I was not a threat. The chicks are actually called colts because they can walk from birth, cool huh?

Thanks for viewing! =o) I love these birds. For more information on these and other cranes, visit www.savingcranes.org. Many still need our help! ***All rights to my images are STRICTLY reserved.
