Reavell Four-Stage Air Compressor Cut-Away
Two electric-motor driven Reavell high pressure air compressors, Type TC4, were fitted in 'A' class submarines to replenish the HP air system. They took a suction from atmosphere and discharged at 4,000 lb per sq in to a ring main and into four groups of air bottles (total capacity 136.5 cu ft) fitted inside the hull. Each compressor was capable of filling a reservoir of 15 cu ft capacity with air 4000 lb per sq in pressure in 80 minutes, when running at 800 rpm.
